I always followed the smell,
some say the wind, or the birds
The scent always came first for me,
always an invitation of jasmine and cedar
When I would arrive,
the clouds boomed with welcoming
the rain greeting me with wet kisses,
the wind asking for a dance,
and I would always accept
We danced until the sun put us to bed,
softening the kisses and quieting the applause
I'd rest until the moon awoke me,
and the cycle of jasmine and cedar began anew
I followed the scent, but there was no thunder, no rain, no wind
I called out to them, but all I heard was a distant echo of a voice
This voice was not my own, so I continued to call,
hoping it was the clouds playing tricks again
I followed their scent, and kept my eyes up
Drifting, my eyes locked on a twinkle
"Polaris," you said, a twig of jasmine between your teeth
"Isn't she beautiful? Always leading me the right direction
However, Mercury isn't where he should be. Clever lad."
Your voice was celestial, made of bourbon and caramel
Up-close, you smelled nothing like a storm
Vanilla, squash, and black pepper,
it was something new, something warm...
Your mind is stirring, constellations arise
Correlations, causations, connecting dots in your mind
A warm strike moved through me, and before I knew,
My body was filled with lightning, electricity throbbed through
Was he a storm? I had the same sensation of yearning,
My bones ached, my hands burning
He was cut of similar cloth, the sky, the schism
How come I never felt his rhythm?
Your eyes, of stories old and new, finally met mine
The storm within me brewed, ached and whined
"What are you looking for, here?" you questioned
All of a sudden, the twinkling stars beckoned
"I'm a stormchaser, you see,
but tonight, the stars beckon me"
I quipped quickly, as I hoped,
Maybe this time, I'd be more than a trope
Finally, the clouds roll in,
I feel their drizzle on my skin
His eyes widen, even brighter than before,
The thunder will awaken him, I'm sure
The lightning cracks, he gasps in awe,
The thunder booms, and a crow caws
I watched him revel in this chaos, his hair whipping with the breeze,
His mind was swirled by the storm, but he endured it with such ease
Polaris watched us from high above,
Unwavering as the wind pushed and shoved
We danced in her light, as her lover rained
The storm held us close, and never, ever waned
When the lightening ceased, and the clouds moved on,
I found myself in the stargazer's arms
He gazed into me, my heart pounding hard
His irises nothing more than stars
"It was a great honor to dance with you, stormchaser
Playing in a storm such as this is rare for a stargazer"
He returned to his surveillance, but it was different this time,
Knowing it or not, he had kept his hand in mine
I decided to join him, only for a short while
I gazed out at the stars, then to that shining smile
My invitation boomed in the distance, lighting weaving,
My star purred, "well darling, are we leaving?"
Thunder behind his eyes and stars in mine,
Any hesitation was hard to find
Breathing the air, the taste of jasmine and cedar,
Somehow, all my senses were sharper, clearer
One step, then five, then twenty
All of a sudden, we were running
Howling, we ran down to the storm
If we go on like this, I'm never going back home
This story could go on forever,
The stormchaser learning to gaze,
The stargazer, chasing with them
However, you know how this ends,
Egos learning to transcend,
Lovers running off, again
So, lovers, gaze at your dazzling fires
Chase the rains that beckon you
In the most unexpected of places
